Description:
I. In response to the "Taiwan High School Critical Thinking and English Debate Promotion Project" in 115, the "National Senior High School English Debate Competition" will be held. To equip high school teachers with professional knowledge in debate
and to cultivate high school teachers as judges for English debate competitions, the Department of English at NTNU is organizing online lectures. The content of the activities includes a basic explanation of judging perspectives, scoring methods, and tools for two debate formats (policy debate and public forum debate).
The morning session will focus on public forum debate,
and the afternoon session will focus on policy debate. The aim is to enhance high school teachers' English debate skills and help them understand the rules and scoring criteria of English debate.
Through in-depth and easy-to-understand professional explanations, tips, and sharing from two experienced American English debate teachers,
teachers' professional abilities in judging policy/public forum debates will be enhanced. This will not only benefit teachers in guiding students to participate in the debate competitions organized by this project in the future,
but also effectively improve the objectivity and fairness of judging.
II. Participants:
(1) To ensure that participating schools understand the rules and scoring methods, and to enhance the fairness and professionalism of judging,
senior high schools that have registered for the 115 National High School English Debate Competition (including "policy debate" and "public forum debate")
must have their debate coaches and representative judges (including full-time, substitute, and part-time teachers) attend the lecture for the format they have registered for.
(2) To promote and facilitate future student participation in competitions by teachers from various schools,
teachers from senior high schools that have not registered for the 115 competition (including full-time, substitute, and part-time teachers) are also welcome to attend lectures for either format. The maximum number of teachers per school for each debate format lecture is 4.
(3) The list of accepted participants will be announced on the project's official website (https://sites.google.com/view/ctndebate/) by 5 PM on March 19, 115,
and will be notified to registrants via email along with detailed course information.
